T’is the Season! The Season of Giving Back, of course.

World Reader reading

While it has been one wild ride of a year of working remotely, we are so grateful to have our health during these unprecedented times.

The act of giving is surely upon us, as we wrap up the year and enter the holidays.

Did you know that the act of giving (from a place without expectation) contributes to higher  feelings of connection and well-being?

Giving releases oxytocin and endorphins in the brain, which help regulate our moods and allows us to become more empathetic to others. It also has great health benefits such as lower blood pressure, less depression, lower stress levels, and increased self-esteem.

Giving can take many forms and doesn’t have to be overarching either.

This year at Inkitt, we decided that we wanted to support some organizations that we felt aligned with our mission of providing opportunities to undiscovered talents and turning them into globally successful authors.

Currently, we love supporting World Reader, a non-profit organization that provides reading via mobile phones and e-readers to children in underserved communities in a variety of different languages from English, Spanish, Kiswahili, Hindi and Arabic.

They utilize a data-based decision making process to suggest books from around the globe and understand which books readers are engaging with most. They provide reminders and incentives along the way to keep readers improving on their progress.

They even offer digital reading programs on their BookSmart app and work closely with schools and partners to help parents, teachers, librarians, and local communities acquire the knowledge to comfortably integrate digital technology into their learning environments, whether in lesson planning or in storytelling techniques.

People who read achieve better educational success, improve their earning potential, and lead healthier, happier lives. That is something we can definitely feel grateful for, knowing that we can empower those that are less fortunate to also become more resilient, motivated to go after their dreams, and build stronger communities as a whole.

So, instead of feeling burnt out from all the shopping this holiday season, consider donating to a charitable organization, like World Reader and share this gesture with your friends and family!
